Since our start in 2004 in a Des Moines garage, we’ve expanded to nearly 400 team members across five locations: Des Moines, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Omaha, and Kansas City. We’ve broadened our expertise to include electrical, HVAC, and plumbing services, creating exciting new opportunities for skilled professionals.

We’re currently seeking an HVAC Estimator to join our team! In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of estimating and managing HVAC projects. You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure that all HVAC systems are designed, estimated, and executed to the highest standards. You’ll have the opportunity to help shape the future of our HVAC services while enjoying the benefits of being an employee-owner.

Job Summary:
The HVAC Estimator is responsible for assessing project timelines, researching market prices for materials and equipment, and communicating with clients to define project scopes. The role also focuses on improving cost-estimating procedures to minimize discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze blueprints to determine wire lengths and appropriate outlet placements according to HVAC codes.
  • Identify the quantity, type, and cost of materials and fixtures needed for projects, as well as labor requirements.
  • Assess the potential profitability of projects to assist management with bidding decisions.
  • Provide actionable solutions to enhance project profitability.
  • Complete and submit competitive project bids in line with established guidelines.
  • Evaluate labor and material costs to determine the feasibility of in-house construction versus subcontracting.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and oversee pre-con meetings with project managers and field foremen for effective project handoff.
  • Assist in managing project change orders as needed.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with project managers and conduct post-project reviews for continuous improvement.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Good visual acuity for reading documents and blueprints.
  • Proficient hand-eye coordination for computer use.
  • Ability to hear and participate in meetings.

Work Environment:
  • Primarily office-based with standard equipment.
  • Occasional site visits for project assessments and inspections.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear PPE when necessary.
  • Frequent interaction with team members and clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
